Unlike in the traditional postpartum period, it is recommended that you get moving again as quickly as possible after a Caesarean section. You should of course avoid physical exertion and especially lifting heavy objects.
Rather, it is about taking small steps to improve circulation in the legs and prevent blood clots. And the sooner you manage to get to the bathroom on your own, the sooner you will be rid of the catheter.
In addition, you can usually start postnatal exercises after 24 hours to support the healing process and to be able to go home with your child as soon as possible. But here too, don't demand too much of yourself and your body at once. After all, you have not only given birth, but also had an operation.
What should be taken into account?
- Keep the incision dry and covered to avoid friction in the first few days. But also allow enough air to reach the wound.
- Only wash the wound with water until the stitches are removed, then you can carefully clean it with a suitable washing lotion.
- Avoid sunlight to avoid affecting pigmentation.
- Wear loose clothing to avoid chafing.
- Wear an abdominal belt to support the recovery of the abdomen and scar.
- Avoid heavy lifting to avoid jeopardizing the healing process.
Danger:
If there is active bleeding, wetness, pus formation, redness, fever or swelling of the incision, you should inform your doctor.
Once the caesarean section wound has healed, the scar
There are a few simple tips and tricks that can help heal the scar or prevent it: Be careful when showering, for example, pat your stomach dry with a towel afterwards instead of rubbing. It is best to avoid full baths until the wound has largely healed and the lochia has stopped. Loose clothing that does not rub (and is usually more comfortable anyway) and special scar oils and ointments also help. If possible, try to handle your scar gently - it is a testament to the life you have created.
